The issue over the calls for a full time GP in the Swanlinbar area has been very much to the fore in recent weeks.
For three years now a doctor has been running a full-time GP service for 1500 patients on a HSE locum contract.
That doctor would like to take on the full time role and the community wants to see that happen. Local resident Martin O'Leary has been speaking to Northern Sound highlighting his and the other residents concerns over what the loss of having a GP would do for people in the area. Martin who has diabetes also says the area has now lost the local diabetes nurse who has operated in the area for a long number of years.
He wants to send a strong message to the HSE and the government that locals wont take any decision lying down to leave the area without a full-time doctor.
