'Supporting the Supporters' free mental health programme returns this month and Mental Health Ireland coproduced the initiative with family members and people with lived experience in partnership with Family Carers Ireland.
The programmes supports families to look after their own mental wellbeing while caring for a person living with a mental health challenge.
It is a five-week online programme that aims to support those caring for people with all types of challenges.
Siona Rennick from Mental Health Ireland told Shannonside Northern Sound that teaming up with Family Carers Ireland provided real insights into the challenges that are there.
She added that those in the caring profession will find the course particularly beneficial and helpful.
"It's a five-week programme and there are four versions running over April and May. There are three on-line and one in-person event that people canattend. It's two hours per week over a five-week period and, it's just about family members and supporters building skills to look after their own well-being while caring for people with mental health challenges," said Ms Rennick.
