Support is available if needed says Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Services area director

He said this new service provides early intervention for those who many be struggling.

The Cavan Monaghan Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse's (SCAN) service was
launched earlier this month at the opening of Blackwater House Mental Health
Services in Monaghan town.

According to Padraig O'Beirne, Area Director of Nursing with Cavan Monaghan
Mental Health Services, anyone with thoughts of suicide or self harm this
Christmas can reach out for help.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr O'Beirne acknowledged the number
of suicides across Cavan and Monaghan in recent times.

He said this new service provides early intervention for those who many be
struggling.

Mr O'Beirne added that no matter how dark things may get for some people,
there is help available to them and all the need to do is reach out.
