A Monaghan councillor has highlighted that the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is available to support households directly affected by Storm Eowyn. Fine Gael's Pauric Clerkin said it's important for households impacted by the storm to know that help is available to them. The scheme provides income-tested financial assistance to alleviate hardship, following a three-stage approach.
According to Cllr Clerkin, the scheme offers emergency payments for immediate needs like food clothing, the replacement of essential items like white goods and furniture, and also can assist with primary residence repairs. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Clerkin says the scheme will alleviate some of the financial pressures faced by local families over the last number of days.
He outlined how people can access the forms locally; "You can go into your local constituency office, I know that Deputy David Maxwell has a number of these applications on hand and ready to help people straight as soon as the application is in their hands and we can submit it for them. You can also get them in your local social welfare office or download the application online here."
