We need a collective and cohesive plan to provide mental health supports. That's according to MEP for the Midlands and North West Maria Walsh who visited Co Monaghan today. She met with with local Sosad and Plant Youth co-ordinators to discuss Mental Health and Youth Policy.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Ms Walsh said that more mental health supports are needed because suicide has a devastating impact on entire communities. She described suicide as "a silent pandemic" and one that needs to be addressed through strategic planning from Europe.
"Each and every one of us has resilience and it's important that we tap into the likes of what Jigsaw teaches us. I am looking forward to meeting Sosad today when we will talk about transition periods.
"Difficult moments happen for each and everyone of us, sometimes every day; sometimes once a week; and sometimes over the course of a month. Therefore, it is very important that we know where to go for that support; that we know there is a community group there when we need it; and also that we have built the resilience to overcome," added MEP Walsh.
