Students set to be allowed to earn more without it affecting third-level grants

It's thought the threshold could be increased to €6,500.

Students will be able to work and earn more during the summer months without it affecting their third-level grants.

Currently, if a student earns more than €4,500, their SUSI grant is impacted.

However, Higher Education Minister Simon Harris is considering an increase to this limit.

It's thought the threshold could be increased to €6,500.

As well as allowing students to earn more without losing their grants, the move could help ease staff shortages in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

Discussions are also taking place between Minister Harris and student representatives ahead of finalising the revised earning limit.

Speaking on The Wider View, Conor Smith, a third-level student from Cavan, says the move is needed due to the financial pressures facing young people:
