Students in the region should consider gap years or apprenticeships if CAO point hikes impact them.
Julie O’Connor is part of the National executive of Irish Guidance Counsellors and she is predicting that course points will go up this year because students were given more options when it came to the exams.
However, she says that those awaiting results shouldn’t worry as it is expected that the calculated grades system, alongside formal exams, will see the majority of students perform better.
There are concerns that some of the higher point’s courses such as medicine, dentistry, and veterinary will be most affected.
