Some parts of the country could experience power outages as strong winds are forecast for the remainder of the day. Met Éireann has warned of possible power outages and travel disruption.
A nationwide Status Yellow Wind warning came into effect at 5am and will remain in place until 2am on Friday. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather says winds will pick up throughout the day across the country with the west and northwest set to be hit the hardest.
"Winds will be very strong right through the afternoon and this evening. The strongest gusts will be in the west, especially the north west.
"There is an Orange level marine warning and the strongest gusts will be along the coast in the north west and on high ground. Unfortunately, the length of these winds is quite unusual," he added.
