23,000 customers are still without power in Cavan and Monaghan this lunchtime as a result of storm force winds associated with Storm Isha. ESB Networks is warning it could be a number of days before power is fully restored to all households. Emyvale is the worst affected area in the Northern Sound region for power outages brought on by Storm Isha, with 1,622 homes still without power. According to the ESB Networks Power Check website, there are currently 1,606 customers affected by storm damage in the Monaghan town. The next worst affected location in Monaghan is Clones with 757 customers affected.
Meanwhile, Cavan is also experiencing its fair share of disruption with 1,071 outages in Ballyjamesduff, 399 outages in Cootehill, 394 in Killeshandra and 151 customers in Kingscourt awaiting restoration of power. Elsewhere, local authority crews across Cavan and Monaghan worked to clear roads across the region with motorist's still advised to be cautious due to fallen debris.
Like many local schools, vital services across the Northern Sound region were also unable to operate today, the popular Truagh Spirt Meals on Wheels service will not run in the Knococonan and Emyvale areas due to the impact of Storm Isha. The community service is unable to deliver meals today due to a power outage in its kitchen, however, delivery drivers will be driving their routes to let service users know that they will deliver a dinner tomorrow instead- if electricity is reinstated. Red and orange wind warnings are now over, but yellow alerts remain in place for counties Clare, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. Brian Tapley from the ESB says hundreds of extra engineers have been contracted to help with the restoration efforts.
