There's still no timeline for when a new Chief Superintendent will be appointed for Cavan and Monaghan.
The post has been filled temporarily since the retirement of John O'Reilly last year.
The Chief Superintendent retired last year and since then the duties have been assigned to Chief Superintendent Aidan Glackin.
He's also responsible for the Sligo-Leitrim Division.
In a statement to Northern Sound News the Gardaí said it "does not comment on future or proposed promotions".
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris announced a controversial new "transformation programme" for the organisation, which would see Cavan-Monaghan merged with the Louth division.
This move drew widespread criticism locally as the Chief Superintendent would be based in Drogheda, rather than in Monaghan as they are currently.
However, the implementation of the plan has been delayed due to the pandemic.
The Garda Press Office says while it has been delayed, the rollout of the plan continues dealing with "administrative processes" in departments like HR, finance and administration across the 19 new divisions.
