Temperatures of as low as minus 8 is expected across Cavan and Monaghan overnight.

Met Eireann is warning of dangerous travelling conditions and extreme cold, with a Status Orange low temperature and ice warning to come into effect this evening.

It's been issued for Munster and Connacht as well as counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Cavan and Monaghan from 8pm, and will continue through to tomorrow morning.

There’s also a second Status Orange warning from 6pm tomorrow until 11am on Thursday.
