The Cavan owner of one of Ireland's largest collections of Star Wars memorabilia says he hopes others can now enjoy his pieces
David Watson is auctioning off his collection of memorabilia this evening, collected over a period of 45 years. One of the prize pieces is a handwritten letter from Anthony Daniels, who played C3-PO, on letterheaded paper with the original name for Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Jedi, printed on it. Much of the collection was purchased in Hanna's Toy Store in Enniskillen through the late 70's into the mid-80s. Speaking to Northern Sound, David says Star Wars helped him through tough times in his life, and he hopes the pieces now go to a good home.
"It's so personal because during my early childhood I was bullied at school. So, Star Wars was a means to escape all that. Of course, in the modern age, kids who are subjected to that can't escape that, because they have their phones and various social media apps. But, for me, that was the big escape from that environment and thankfully it got me through that period".
