Staff at a local manufacturing company have voted in favour of industrial action.
Cavan-Town based Kyte Powertech says it has fully engaged with trade union SIPTU since October 2021 on negotiating an improvement in employees' pay.
In a statement to Northern Sound, Kyte Powertech adds that it "remains available for discussions".
A spokesperson from Kyte Powertech said the company has "already accepted the Labour Court recommendation on enhanced terms".
The spokesperson added that this was "despite these terms going beyond what the Company was initially prepared to pay, in the interests of maintaining good industrial relations".
However, Kyte Powertech says "regrettably, employees have chosen to reject the Labour Court recommendation", which the company "views as the only basis for a solution".
The local company added that "given the challenging and uncertain business context, it cannot afford to further increase labour costs beyond the Labour Court recommendation".
The statement also noted that the "rejection of the Labour Court recommendation means there is currently no basis for pay increases backdated to January 1st of this year".
Kyte Powertech described the employees' decision to vote for Industrial Action as "regrettable".
Trade Union SIPTU has been approached for comment by Northern Sound.
