A 16-year-old Co Monaghan student who developed an anti-microbial face-mask storage case has won the top prize at the Student Enterprise Programme National Finals.
St Macartan's Matthew McVicar created a product called 'CopperCase', that cleans face masks of Covid 19 and other viruses or bacteria within three minutes.
The inside of the CopperCase is lined with copper, and once your mask comes into contact with it, the copper ions attack the bacteria on the mask.
The product is now on sale in pharmacies across Ireland and the UK, and can be purchased online on coppercase.ie
The CopperCase allows single-use surgical masks to be worn up to ten times, and tackling this waste was one of the driving forces behind Matthew's idea:
