Figures for speeding offences are on the rise across Co Monaghan. The figures were revealed at this month's sitting of Monaghan's Joint Policing Committee. A total of 139 detections were made for speeding offences in the first quarter of this year. That's compared to a figure of 104 which was recorded for that same period the previous year.
A number of local representatives who attended the meeting raised their concerns over the increase in speeding offences. According to Superintendent Pat O' Connell, enforcement is "not working" on its own and a collaborative approach is needed, particularly when it comes to drivers taking responsibility.
