A planned specialist inpatient hospice service for Cavan and Monaghan has reached a major milestone.
The final tender documentation and pre tender suitability assessment for a 16 bed specialist inpatient hospice service at St Christopher's, Cavan have been officially completed. The completion of these documents means the project can now progress to tender and a contractor can be appointed.
Chairperson of St Christopher's Hospice, Jim Lalor, has hailed the completion of this phase as a major landmark. Speaking to Northern Sound, he says the hope is to begin construction on the project this year
"It means for this region that people who have had to travel to Dublin and elsewhere for treatment can now have it at their doorstep in Cavan and Monaghan. It's only a matter of hopping over to St Christopher's and everything will be done there. It will be state of the art and I don't say that lightly. It will be a top, top quality hospice. Building should commence before the end of the year. Certainly it would be completed, hopefully, in 2026".
