Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit made a number of detections over the weekend. On Saturday night Gardaí conducted Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoints around Ballyjamesduff. One motorist was arrested having failed a roadside alcohol test and was further tested at the station and found to be over the legal limit. Elsewhere, on Sunday evening a motorist failed a roadside oral fluid test for drugs testing positive for cocaine. This driver was arrested and blood samples taken.
A disqualified driver was then detected driving in Cavan Town and was arrested and charged to Court. The car was detained under section 41 Road Traffic Act. Later on Sunday night, another motorist took a right turn where it was prohibited to do so. According to local Gardaí, this driver was stopped and found to be intoxicated. The driver was arrested and tests at Cavan Garda Station found the driver over the limit and charged to court. This car was also taken off the road for no tax.
