Reaching out to someone struggling with their mental health is not something to be afraid of. That's the message from Christine Wynne of SOSAD Cavan on World Mental Health Day. To mark the annual event a number of initiatives took place across the Northern Sound region today to promote more awareness around mental health. The branch coordinator of SOSAD Cavan is Christine Wynne, who is also part of the senior management team. Speaking to Northern Sound, Christine highlighted the importance of "reaching out" when things start to feel like you can't cope.
She added that "prevention is key" and that we shouldn't let things escalate before seeking help. "It's important to not let things escalate as this is when things become much bigger," explained Christine. "We are preaching and shouting from the rooftops along with every other mental health service for people to reach out when things start to feel like you can't cope. It's all about prevention, prevention, prevention and you don't have to be at crisis point to avail of services, prevention is key. Sometimes it's easier to open up and talk to someone who you don't know, who is a stranger and doesn't have a personal comment on what you're experiencing."
