The CMETB has described as "regrettable" that courses due to start in quarter 4 of this year have had to be postponed. The board blames the situation on inadequate funding from the national Further Education and Training budget, which, was not increased this year. The shortfall means part-time education courses planned for the remainder of 2024 have been postponed.
The courses affected include include certified Childcare, Healthcare, Business, ICT, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Horticulture and Communications programmes, and other non-certified / hobby type classes across both Cavan and Monaghan.
At the most recent CMETB meeting, the board said there was an increase to almost 7,000 learners currently placed on further education and training in Cavan and Monaghan. At the meeting, Dr. Linda Pinkster, Director of Further Education and Training (FET) at CMETB advised the board is in "active communication with the relevant agencies seeking to secure additional funding". A statement from CMETB said " It should be emphasised that this is not a position CMETB wishes to be in."
