An event will take place in Cavan Town this coming weekend to mark the third anniversary of the war in Ukraine. With an exhibition in relation to the war already ongoing at the Johnston Central Library in Cavan, a peaceful solidarity action event will also take place on Saturday. The event will take place at 12 midday at the Square in Cavan Town near An Post.
Sergey Balan and Antonia Karelina are both part of the Ukrainian Cavan community. Both Sergey and Antonia says the people of Ukraine want the war to end but not at any price, adding that certain guarantees on territory and security will have to be given if the fighting is to end. Speaking to Northern Sound, Antonia believes Ukrainian's have "no other option" but to be resilient. Antonia continued; "My social media feed looks like an obituary, I open it and it’s no longer about people’s vacations, it's about who has died. Tens of thousands of civilians."
