Social Farming Ireland are hosting an open day in Cavan tomorrow.
Social Farming provides a real opportunity to support recovery on ordinary farm settings for many people experiencing mental health challenges. World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on the 10th of October and through the social farming experience, and through connecting with the farmer and the the community hinterland, many people can improve their health and wellbeing.
During these open days, visitors will get an insight into how the farm operates and learn about the role it plays in promoting well-being and inclusion. Gerard Lynch near Butlersbridge, just 10 minutes from Cavan town will open his farm tomorrow.
On this family farm there are dairy cows and they also calve down replacements each year. The farm has been in my family for three generations and the farm overlooks Carafin Lake. Booking in advance is essential and runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Jodie Curran spoke with Helen Doherty of Social Farming Ireland and began by asking her what people can expect from tomorrow's event:
