While it's going to remain very cold this weekend across Cavan and Monaghan, the region is unlikely to see snow. That's according to meteorologist and RTE weather presenter, Gerry Murphy, who told Northern Sound that frosty, cold conditions are in store for the next few days.
The Carrickmacross native said that night temperatures could drop to at least -5 and day temperatures will only be about 1 to 2 degrees. Mr Murphy highlighted that winds will be light, therefore fog will develop tonight, and it will be slow to clear tomorrow.
He added there won't be snow but because of wintery showers "a few flurries" could be witnessed in West Cavan. Overall for Cavan and Monaghan there won't be much if any snow. "Today we have showers streaming in from the north west and a few of them could drift into west Cavan.
"During the day anyway they will be mostly rain and sleet. What we have really are wintery showers at times over the coming days and some of them will predominately affect north Connaught and north Ulster.
"A few of those showers could come into western parts of Cavan and come across to cause a few flurries on Monaghan," added Mr Murphy.
