The decision to provide County Monaghan with a special school is set to be formally agreed by Cabinet on Tuesday.

Peadar Toibín, the leader of Aontú and Sinn Féin leader, Mary-Lou McDonald, are to meet with members of campaign group, Special Needs Active Parents, or SNAP

Parents feel carrying out a review into whether Monaghan needs a special school or not is like starting from Ground Zero.

The facility is almost ready to go with a date for opening of the 1st of October still in sight.

Deputy Niamh Smyth said the the Holy Family School in Cavan is "incredible" but is also a "victim of its own success".

Six members of the Special Needs Active Parents campaign group travelled to Dublin yesterday for a meeting in the Dail.

Special Needs Active Parents are actively campaigning for a special school in Monaghan, as well as a day respite centre and standalone respite centre.

The parents would like members of the public to come to their protest and sign a petition calling for a special needs school, dedicated respite and day care centres for County Monaghan.
