The Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Ireland was welcomed to Cavan last Friday for a discussion on strengthening cultural and trading links.
The meeting was facilitated by Senator Joe O'Reilly, who is chair of the Irish-Slovenia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Ambassador Stanislav Vidovi received presentations from Director of Service Eoin Doyle on County Cavan, from Acting Head of Enterprise Conor Craven on business and trade and from Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark Manager Gráinne O'Connor on the Geopark. Slovenia, like Cavan, boasts a transnational UNESCO Geopark.
Welcoming Ambassador Vidovi to Cavan, Leas-Chathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Carmel Brady said, "Our two nations share a great deal in common, we are both republics, parliamentary democracies, we both declared our independence in the 20th centuries, and we are both proud members of the European Union.
Cllr Brady said through this recent meeting we can grow links between our county and Slovenia and develop greater trade links, as well as promoting greater cultural understanding.
