There’s been a slight drop in the number of people claiming the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in the Northern Sound region.
166 fewer people are in receipt of the payment this week when compared to the week previous.
Nationwide, there are 4,403 fewer people in receipt of the PUP.
Co Cavan has seen the biggest drop locally, with 1,949 people on the PUP, down 90 on the previous week.
In Co Monaghan there’s been a weekly reduction of 76, with the number in receipt of the payment now at 1,899.
Across the Northern Sound region, 3,848 people are on the payment, a considerable drop from the 2021 peak in early February, when 13,900 people were in receipt of the PUP.
Commenting on the figures, Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys said “it’s heartening to see more people return to work each week as we continue to move cautiously through our recovery from Covid-19”.
