There has been a slight increase in drug detections made by Gardaí in the first three months of this year in Co Monaghan. The figures were revealed at a recent sitting of Monaghan's Joint Policing Committee. A total of seven detections were made for drugs that were in possession for sale or supply in the first quarter of this year. This is compared to three detections for that same period the previous year.
The figure for drug detections made for simple possession this year remains unchanged at 22 when compared to the same period last year. According to Superintendent Pat O' Connell, a new dedicated drugs unit in the Cavan/Monaghan area explains the slight spike in detections made by Gardaí.
