Sky-high rents in the region show local communities have been failed by the government's disastrous housing policy.
That's the view of local Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy, who say by paying these high rents people are being priced out of the housing market, He said the current policy by the government as it stands leaves people inevitably renting for their entire lives.
The local TD said that by the time people pay their monthly rent and pay their basic bills there is no money left over to save for a deposit. As of today there are 21 homes to rent across Cavan and Monaghan, only 6 are available in Monaghan ranging from 800 euro for a studio to 2,000 for a 3 bed home.
Deputy Carthy says the Sinn Fein plan would ensure workers and families on ordinary incomes can rent or buy genuinely affordable homes. He said this is currently not the case at present in the region.
