Efforts to identify the remains found at a house in Youghal in East Cork are underway.
It's understood officers investigating the murder of Tina Satchwell discovered skeletal remains under the floor of the house this morning.
A forensic anthropologist attended the scene on Gratton Street in Youghal this morning after the bones were found, however Gardaí are satisfied that they are human.
DNA samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Ireland lab in Dublin for identification.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster has been to the site to survey the remains, which have been removed from the house in the past hour.
A man in his 50s arrested this morning in Youghal in connection with the case remains in Garda Custody. Gardaí in Midleton are due to hold a press conference on their progress in the case in the next 30 minutes.
