The meat industry is “the perfect storm” for covid-19 transmissions, according to a SIPTU trade union official.
Greg Ennis says he has been raising his concerns about meat plants since March and SIPTU will expressing these concerns to Meat Industry Ireland in a meeting on Monday.
He says blanket testing on all workers in meat and food processing plants is a necessity.
226 covid-19 cases, mainly in meat plants, have been confirmed Kildare, Offaly, and Laois over the past two weeks.
Mr Ennis told today’s The Wider View that more needs to be done to tackle outbreaks in meat plants, including unannounced health and safety inspections:
