Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD will visit Monaghan tonight where she will address a public meeting in Inniskeen Community Centre at 7.30pm. Local Sinn Féin TDs Matt Carthy and Pauline Tully will also attend.
Speaking in advance of the visit, Deputy Carthy said the party was encouraging people to attend the meeting in Inniskeen where they will have their say on the cost of living crisis. He pointed out that Sinn Fein’s view is, that Ireland needs a change of Government - one that "makes a real difference to the lives of ordinary people".
He added that workers and families are now struggling with the most serious cost of living crisis in a generation and enduring "a real sense of worry and uncertainty". "This is a time of great change. In a couple of weeks, the government plan to rotate the position of Taoiseach.
"Our view is we need a change of Government, not just a change of Taoiseach. Just as they have done for a century, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael intend to pass power between them.
"This cosy arrangement has delivered nothing but more of the same for workers and families who are crying out loudly for something different. Long before the current crisis hit, they had a government failing to deliver, particularly in the areas of housing and health.
"We need a Government that can make a real difference in the lives of ordinary people," Deputy Carthy added.
