Matt Carthy believes his party has a fighting chance of taking three seats in the Cavan-Monaghan constituency.
The Sinn Fein director of elections told Northern Sound he is "happy" with the results so far.
Sinn Fein has already taken first, second and fourth position in the tallies, which Carthy believes has put his party in a "strong position" even though there is a "long road ahead."
Speaking to Northern Sound, Matt Carthy said; "There are 10 candidates who have a conceivable route to winning a seat in Cavan-Monaghan constituency. It's going to be really interesting but we're very happy so far”.

“We have two seats more or less confirmed at this point but we would love to take home the third."
Carthy added this constituency will take a few days to deliver the five TD's and sleeping bags will be needed.
