Sinn Fein is being called on raise the disappearance of Columba McVeigh at the highest level.
The families of The Disappeared, as well as representatives of the Wave Trauma Centre were speaking to Oireachtas members yesterday.
19 year old Columba McVeigh was abducted and murdered by the IRA in 1975, with his remains believed to be secretly buried in Bragan Bog in Monaghan.
Despite multiple searches by the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains, he has never been found.
During a three-hour meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, Oliver McVeigh said everything always leads back to "Sinn Fein, the Provisional movement and the Republican movement", and urged the matter to be raised by Mary Lou McDonald and Michelle O'Neill.
Columba's sister, Dympna Kerr added that Sinn Fein is quick to hold the British Government to account for similar historical events.
The Sinn Fein representatives attending the meeting did reissue appeals for anyone with information to come forward to the Commission, however Oliver said that isn't enough.
Responding to the comments, a Sinn Fein spokesperson told Northern Sound News, “Sinn Féin called for the establishment of the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains, which was set up by the Irish and British governments in 1999.
“Sinn Féin has consistently called on anyone with information that could help lead to the retrieval of bodies in the outstanding cases, including Columba McVeigh, to come forward to the Commission.”
