There have been significant detections of speeding on the N2 since the introduction of travel restrictions.
Sergeant with the Roads policing Unit in Monaghan Niall Leech was speaking as patrols are being carried out across the region as part of National Slow Down Day today.
He says today is a great opportunity to highlight that speed limits are not targets and people need to drive at all times with conditions in mind.
He is reminding the public that anyone caught speeding can be arrested for dangerous driving, receive a court date, be disqualified and will also create difficulties for themselves going forward when it comes to insurance.
