There is a sense of shock, disbelief and upset in a local community in Co Galway, following the death of two teenagers in a car crash. That's according to the Chairperson of the Board of Management at Presentation College in Headford, where the teens attended school.
A 14-year-old boy and girl both died after the car they were travelling in, hit a tree just outside the village in the early hours of yesterday. Two other teenagers who were in the car are being treated for serious injuries in hospital.
Mary Hoade is the chair of the Board of Management at the school and says supports are being put in place. "The school has a critical incident response which means services will be available to students in the school from 11am to 2pm. All parents and students have been made aware of that.
"It will provide psychological, pastoral and support for the students at what is a very, very difficult time for them and for the community at large," she added.
