The Shercock Credit Union is set to merge with Castleblaney in the coming weeks following 36 years in operation as a standalone independent credit union.
The decision to merge won a majority vote of 86% meaning Shercock will become a branch of Castleblaney Credit Union.
Speaking to Northern Sound News, manager Breda McCabe says the move which is expected to take place from September 11th will see a greater variety of facilities for customers including current accounts, online banking services and the credit union mobile app.
Serving as manager for 11 years and previously treasurer for 25 years, Ms McCabe is delighted with the decision and pointed to the fact that this move is about securing a bright future for the local credit union for many years to come.
The combining of both credit unions will see assets rise to €76 million, up until now Shercock Credit Union had assets of €15 million.
Breda says that she has decided to retire when the merger has been completed and says that the facility has seen some great changes since its inception in 1987.
