The agreement by the EU and UK to share trade data is being called a game-changer when it comes to the Northern Ireland Protocol. Up to now, UK governments had refused to share this information.
Ireland South MEP, Seán Kelly, says Rishi Sunak has just shown he's willing to meet half-way. And he's confident that EU negotiators will also show flexibility in dealing with any remaining issues.
"The use of data is going to ensure that the checks that will be required will be reduced to an absolute minimum. I think this is very, very important and should not be underestimated.
"It will probably lead to a political agreement so that the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement can be celebrated," he added.
