Services for people with Down Syndrome "stuck in first gear" since easing of restrictions

That's the message from a member of the Monaghan branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Children with Down Syndrome "regressed and went backwards" during school closures throughout the pandemic.

That's the warning from Brian Reneghan, who is a member of the Monaghan branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

He says school closures and a lack of services, such as speech and language therapies, has put them at a "significant disadvantage".

Brian called on the government to do more to get these services back up and running, but praised the volunteerism of the local Down Syndrome branches.

Speaking on the Wider View, Brian says services for people with Down Syndrome are "stuck in first gear" since the easing of restrictions:
