Emyvale Garda Station reopened today.
The north Monaghan village has been without a functional garda station since a fire in 2019.
Extensive damage was caused to the building following an arson attack in the early hours of October 28th.
Superintendent Patrick O'Connell confirmed that modular office accommodation at the site, installed by the OPW, would re-open for public services from Monday, 31st January.
However, Cllr Brian McKenna said that while the return of services was "welcome", it was important to ensure the 'temporary' structure did not become a 'permanent' one.
"I'm delighted that this has happened here in Emyvale this afternoon," he added.
"It is a temporary structure - it's not the be all and end all.
"But certainly it's up to us as elected representatives, to keep the pressure on the Gardai to ensure that this temporary structure does not become a permanent structure.
"We want to see a permanent garda station returned to Emyvale; while the temporary structure is welcome - it is only short-term."
