Local authority service sites in towns and villages across Cavan and Monaghan are about to come on stream following the launch of the 'Ready to Build' Scheme.
Earlier today, Minister for Housing, Darragh O'Brien announced details of the scheme - which will be funded under the Croí Cónaithe Fund. The sites will provide necessary infrastructure including electricity, water and wastewater while the purchaser can build a house to their liking.
The sites will be sold at a discounted rate of up to €30,000 from the market value with the discount being determined by the cost of servicing the site. Cavan Senator Joe O'Reilly says the move will support home ownership and provide options for young people who need a house.
He added how the scheme was not open to builders and developers and can only be availed of to build an applicants principal private residence.
"This is a really positive new scheme which will see fully serviced sites made available by Cavan County Council at a discount to those who wish to build their own home," continued Senator O'Reilly.
"This is in line with the Fine Gael priority of supporting home ownership and providing options to those who wish to set down routes within their communities. The Ready to Build Scheme is aimed at the 500 towns in Ireland that have a population of 400 or more.
"Applicants can be first time buyers or individuals selling their home as they want to relocate to a town or village. The scheme must be used to build an applicant's principal private residence and is not open to builders and developers."
