The sentencing of two cousins who led Gardaí on a cross-border chase in a stolen airport minibus has been adjourned.
The cases of 26 year old Stephen McDonagh and 27 year old John McDonagh, both of The Steeples in Navan will now be heard at Cavan Circuit Court next month.
Last week, Stephen McDonagh pleaded guilty to six sample charges.
One of unlawfully taking a Carlton Hotels courtesy minibus from outside Terminal 2 of Dublin Airport, three of falsely imprisoning passengers on the bus, one of reckless endangerment at Junction 11 on the M1, and one of taking a vehicle without authority at an address in Castleblayney, County Monaghan.
His older cousin John also pleaded guilty to five sample charges.
Three were for the false imprisonment of the bus passengers, and two of being a passenger in a known stolen vehicle.
All offences took place on January 8th of this year.
Sentencing was to be held today at Monaghan Circuit Court but was adjourned due to a matter relating to Covid 19, until the next sitting of Cavan Circuit Court at the end of November.
John McDonagh will appear in Cavan for sentencing, while Stephen will attend via video link.
Speaking today via video link from Cloverhill Prison, Stephen McDonagh said he'd prefer to have his matter dealt with in Monaghan, because if he's sentenced in Cavan he'll be remanded to Castlerea Prison - where he's involved in a feud with other members of the Travelling community.
Judge John Aylmer said he'd no issue with holding it until Monaghan's next sitting in January but put it forward to Cavan to give the defence an opportunity to clarify the position with their client.
