Cavan Senator Joe O'Reilly has been elected Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.
He was elected this afternoon with the support of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, Green Party and Independent Senators.
Sinn Féin Senator Fintan Warfield was also nominated.
Seanad Leader Regina Doherty praised Senator O'Reilly's work on Cavan County Council, in the Dáil and Seanad since he was first elected in 1985.
Fianna Fáil's Diarmuid Wilson, who's also from Cavan, praised Senator O'Reilly for his work in politics and as a national school teacher.
