Senator Robbie Gallagher has "welcomed" the extension of the 50 per cent fare discount to 16, 17 and 18-year-old's attending third level education.
The Fianna Fáil Senator for Cavan-Monaghan has been campaigning for this change since the initial fare reduction was announced.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Gallagher said the widening of the eligibility is "very important" for those students under 19 years of age who are using commercial bus operators.
He also confirmed that the NTA will be assessing "expanding" the discount to students across the border region who are travelling on commercial operators to third level education institutions in the North:
