A security alert at Wattlebridge remains live this evening.
PSNI Officers are carrying out examinations of the area close to the Cavan-Clones Road for a suspected explosive device.
There’s currently no timeline for when the N54 Road, between Clonandra outside Clones and Leggykelly in Cavan, will reopen.
The main road between Monaghan and Cavan was closed this morning by Gardai as a precaution, to assist the PSNI.
It comes after reports that a device was left in the Wattlebridge area of Newtownbutler last night.
The incident came to light after warning calls, claiming to be from the Continuity IRA were made.
An exact location of any suspect device remains to be established.
In August 2019, police said dissident republicans were behind a “deliberate attempt” to murder officers when a real bomb detonated after a hoax device loured PSNI and the Army to a similar location to today’s alert.
Members of the public are asked to be vigilant, report any information immediately and not touch any suspicious objects.
