A section of the Monaghan Town Greenway will remain closed until the 12th of August, despite initial estimates that it would re-open in early July.
The Greenway from the Coolshannagh Roundabout to Old Cross Square closed on the 23rd of May to allow for essential maintenance and upgrade works to take place.
The original estimate of early July was revised to the 29th of July, and has since been further pushed back to the 12th of August.
In a statement to Northern Sound, Monaghan County Council says it "issued a contract to upgrade the Ulster Canal Greenway in Monaghan town on the 5th of May".
Upgrade works include for the widening of the greenway, the provision of an asphalt concrete surface, drainage improvements and installing public lighting along the length of the greenway.
The works were originally scheduled to last for 6-8 weeks.
However, the Local Authority says "due to unforeseen supply chain issues, there was a delay in receiving lighting columns to the site".
It adds that "this delay has resulted in a knock-on delay for the completion of the works".
The works are now scheduled for completion on the 12th August, and Monaghan County Council says it will continue to manage this contract to ensure the greenway is reopened as quickly as possible.
