Searches are continuing after a prisoner escaped from Loughan House on Monday.
Gardaí in Cavan are assisting the Irish Prison Service in locating the man.
The Dublin criminal had been in prison for over ten years on drug and firearm offences, and was within three years of completing his sentence.
It's understood that the man in his 50s was due to be transferred to a more closed jail after breaching prison rules.
The Irish Prison Service told Shannonside Northern Sound News that it can't comment on individual matters, but did confirm that a prison did abscond from Loughan House Open Prison in west Cavan on Monday evening.
Cavan Gardaí are assisting in tracing the whereabouts of the man who is unlawfully at large, and they have the power to detain, arrest, and return such persons to prison.
