A search that commenced by Gardaí in County Cavan and the PSNI in relation to the Belturbet Bombing 50 years ago has concluded.
The search began on Wednesday at the Woodford River at the Old Aghalane Bridge on the border between Co. Cavan and Co Fermanagh.
In a statement to Northern Sound News earlier this week, Gardai confirmed that the operation was in relation to the ongoing investigation into the Belturbet bombing that occurred on 28th December 1972.
On 28th December 1972 a series of three no warning bombs exploded in Belturbet, Clones and Pettigo. The car bomb which exploded on Main Street, Belturbet, Co. Cavan killed two teenagers - Patrick Stanley who was 16 years old and Geraldine O'Reilly who was 15 years old.
Gardaí have confirmed today to Northern Sound News that the results of the search are not being released at this time.
