A Local Senator has called for action to address issues involved with the school transport scheme in Monaghan and Cavan.
A review of the scheme was carried out by Minister Norma Foley and an interim report has seen some changes made.
Senator Robbie Gallagher has called the current scheme “anti-rural Ireland”, with no understanding being shown as to what living in rural Ireland is all about.
He says his experience dealing with those concerned, sees the issues come down to the workload placed on staff and those problems haven’t been addressed in this review.
However, Senator Gallagher says that he is hopeful that the increased services and spaces which are being aimed at rural areas along with some other changes will improve the situation this academic year:
