Hundreds of homeowners in Cavan have been told it could be next week before their power is restored.
West Cavan has been one of the worst areas of the county to be affected with thousands still currently off the grid.
Cllr John Paul Feeley said a lack of foresight which has come from some of the country's most prominent forestry firms is the major problem. He said these breakages could have been avoided if Coillte and other forestry companies managed their estates properly.
The West Cavan councillor has been highlighting this issue for years at the council meetings and has been critical of forestry companies over the years. Cllr Feeley said this unprecedented event over the past week hopefully will now make the powers that be finally wake up. The local representative said that the scale of damage is almost apocalyptic across the West Cavan area.
