The local councillor has been elected this evening to the Agricultural panel of the Seanad.
The East Cavan woman has been a councillor in Cavan since 2016 and topped the poll in last year’s local elections in the Bailieboro/Cootehill Municipal District.
The Aontu representative for the region received over 58,000 first preference votes in the election which is sure to leave her in a prominent position in taking a seat in the Oireachtas.
Cllr O’Reilly narrowly missed out in the most recent general election at taking a seat in Cavan/Monaghan and had previously contested the 2020 general elections also.
She previously was a Fianna Fáil councillor when she was co-opted to Cavan County Council in 2016 when she took Niamh Smyth’s seat when she was elected to the Dail.
