A Co Cavan councillor has called for a number of safety hazards to be addressed in the Virginia area. Cllr TP O'Reilly outlined the need for extra signage at Cloghergoole Cross at the most recent sitting of the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District. While the Fine Gael representative praised new resurfacing works on the Virginia - Mullagh road, he believes that added safety precautions are "needed" at Cloghergoole Cross. Cllr O'Reilly was informed at the meeting by John McGahern, Engineer at Cavan County Council that safety improvement works for this area would be explored, with a commitment that they would be put in place sooner rather later.
Speaking to Northern Sound on the matter, Cllr O'Reilly said it's vitally important to make drivers aware that the cross is coming up. "Despite the great work done on resurfacing and aligning the road, I think there is still a need for more signage and a slow down sign or two on the road near the cross," explained Cllr O'Reilly. "It's very important to make drivers aware that the cross is coming up and to improve safety more than anything else."
